![]() Ive seen it done so many different ways over the years, it never occurred to me there even was a standard representation. The bummer for me though is I use a Linux app wakeonlan which only allows colons. If I was going to choose a representation, thats the one Id choose. Ive seen both in common use, however, almost all of the networking standards that Ive read have used the hyphen as a separator, rather than the colon. I have a spreadsheet of all the machines containing the MAC addresses which I have had to laboriously duplicate with both colon and hyphen. When setting up things like Wake On LAN its all done via MAC addresses. I manage a number of networks in Kenya consisting of about 50 machines, some with multiple NICs. Problem is that I often want to cut and paste e.g. Excel Formula To Place A Colon Address Code A Spreadsheet.
